Summer Solstice - 'The Longest Day'

Summer Solstice is also know as the celtic festival of Litha. The sun is at it's highest point in the sky, giving us the longest day and the shortest night (this far north Dusk turns into Dawn with hardly any darkness). The Summer Solstice is the great turning point of the solar year. .....From this day forward the sun begins to loose its strength . From today (summer solstice) the year turns back toward the waning half of the cycle....days will get shorter and the nights longer as we slowly spiral back towards winter.

It is traditional to stay up all night and greet the dawn of the longest day. Feel the freshness of the dawn and go to a high place where you can see the suns rays come over the horizon.

Colcannon - Live Music

Glen Urquhart Public Hall - Drumnadrochit

We welcome the return of the band which is one of the Glen's favourites - all the way from Australia, it's Colcannon. Kat Kraus has one of those voices you never tire of hearing, Emma Luker is a sympathetic, soulful fiddle player, Pete Titchener's guitar work is eclipsed only by his sense of humour, while Glaswegian John Munro has been touring the world with Eric Bogle since 1980 and somehow managed to become one of the best bluegrass mandolinists playing anywhere. Together, they make harmonies to die for. If you haven't made friends with Colcannon yet, put Oct 21st in your diary now.  visit www.glenurquhart.info for more info
